Malawi Airlines to celebrate IWD with all-female flight
Malawi Airlines will join the rest of the international community in commemorating this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) with an all-female staffed flight on Friday, 8th March, 2019.
Malawi Airlines will on this day assign one of its flights to all-female staff in honour of our women staff and to show the world that as a company we are playing a vital role in the promotion of women. The triangular flight from Lilongwe-Lusaka-Harare-Lilongwe will be operated by female crew; from cockpit, cabin, check-in, customer care, air traffic control to rest of ground handling operations.
Celebration event to mark commissioning of the special flight will be held at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) from 09:30 a.m. under the theme: ‘All-female flight from the Warm Heart of Africa: proving the power of women.’
The theme is borrowed from the call by Malawi to advance the status of women and girls in the country. As Malawi Airlines we believe women are as capable of success in every field only if given a chance. We thus encourage girls who are still in school to consider pursuing careers in aviation, a field that is often considered to be a preserve for men.
This will be Malawi Airlines’ second all-female operated flight after the maiden all-female staffed flight on March 16 2017.
Meanwhile, passengers purchasing tickets for travel between 2 March and 8 March will enjoy a 15% discount. The discount is applicable on all Malawi Airlines flights.
